As Liberal Democrat Energy and Climate Change spokesperson in the Lords – Claire was my special adviser. At that time, there was no chance whatsoever of us being zero carbon by 2050. I needed to exert pressure on the government. Claire put together an advisory team of experts and the guidance that enabled me to produce the top-level powerful report: ‘A Vision for Britain: Clean Green and Carbon Free’. So much so that ministers at the Despatch Box named the report and it was undoubtedly a driver of the change in pace we now see.
