Training

Organisations can get in the habit of doing advocacy work in a particular way, without taking time to reflect, review and consider how they may be able to sharpen their work.

My training courses give teams and individuals an opportunity to step back and think about their approach and strategy, and through discussion and practical exercises to gain insights that will re-energise and improve their effectiveness.

Courses I offer include:

How Parliament Works: Essentials Course (1.5 hours)

This course covers:

  • Who’s who

  • Key Parliamentary mechanisms

  • Differences between the House of Commons and House of Lords

  • Formal and informal opportunities for organisations to engage

How Parliament Works: Day Course

This course covers:

  • Who’s who

  • What is policy and how is it made

  • Parliamentary mechanisms in detail, including written and oral questions

  • Legislation

  • Effective written briefings

  • Preparing for meetings with MPs

Courses are interactive and include exercises to consolidate learning and hone skills.

Coaching

Politics is constantly changing and sometimes you can find yourself dealing with new situations where you could do with some expert support.

When it comes to getting advice on political engagement, a little can go a very long way.

I offer regular coaching for policy and advocacy leads and also ‘power hours’ for anyone wanting quick advice on your strategy, policy or engagement.

This gives you a confidential sounding board to discuss ideas and receive insight to build your clarity, confidence and effectiveness.

Leading in this area can be lonely, especially when you're in a small team. Talking your approach through with someone who understands how the system works can be useful, refreshing and give you confidence you’re on the right track.
